New Permanent Representative of Yemen Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations, Jamal Abdullah al-Sallal, today presented his credentials to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Until his appointment, Mr. Al-Sallal was his country’s Ambassador to Iran, concurrently serving as Ambassador to Azerbaijan on a non-resident basis, since 2006.

From 2005 to 2006, he served as Consul General of Yemen in Dubai and Northern Emirates, United Arab Emirates, prior to which he was Consul General for one year in Mumbai, India.

From December 2002 to June 2004, he was Vice Chairman of the Northern and Southern American Department, and Director of the Northern American Department and Canadian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Yemen.  He was Director of the Northern American Department and Canadian Affairs from July 2000 to December 2002.

From July 1998 until July 2000, he served as a member of the Arabic Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  From 1994 to 1998, he served as Deputy to the Permanent Representative of the Yemeni Mission to the Arab League.

Fluent in Arabic and English, Mr. Al-Sallal received a Master of Arts degree in International Public Policy from the Johns Hopkins University, United States (1990), and a Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce and Economics from the Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt (1982).

Born in on 1 January, 1960 in Sana’a, Yemen, the new envoy is married with three children.
