Ms. Al-Mughairy received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the American University in Cairo, Egypt (1970).  While studying there, she worked as a broadcaster, programme producer and translator at Cairo Radio.  She later undertook postgraduate studies in broadcasting at the Institute for Development Studies at Sussex University in the United Kingdom and at Columbia University School of Journalism in New York.
