Secretary-General Hopes Opening of Cyprus Crossing Point
May Strengthen Climate of Trust
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General welcomes the opening today of the crossing point at Limnitis/Yeşilırmak in Cyprus, which he trusts will lead to increased interaction and cooperation between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. He congratulates both communities and their leadership for this important achievement.
The Secretary-General hopes that this will help strengthen the climate of trust and goodwill necessary for the United Nations-supported negotiations to achieve a mutually acceptable and lasting settlement as soon as possible.
