Secretary-General Appoints Samir Aldarabi Director
of United Nations Information Centre in Sana’a
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is pleased to announce the appointment of Samir Aldarabi as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Sana’a, Yemen. He will assume his new duties on 6 December.
Since November 2009, Mr. Aldarabi has been on assignment with the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS), working with Radio Miraya. Prior to that, he was an Arabic-language producer with United Nations Radio from March 2002.
Before joining the Organization, Mr. Aldarabi was the Coordinator of Arab Press and Palestinian Strategies for Miftah (the Palestinian Initiative for the Promotion of Global Dialogue and Democracy) between July 1999 and March 2002. During that period, starting in February 1995, he also worked as the Main Editor and Anchor for Radio Voice of Palestine.
Mr. Aldarabi was a freelance correspondent for Radio Canada International’s Arabic Section from January 1998 to January 2002. Between February 1987 and February 1998, he headed the technical team of the media campaign for the first-ever Population, Housing, and Establishment Census conducted by the Palestinian Bureau of Statistics.
A national of Jordan, Mr. Aldarabi holds a master’s degree in social science from Long Island University. He is married and has two sons and one daughter.
