In Presidential Statement, Security Council Welcomes Iraq Government Agreement,
Stressing Importance of Stability, Security for Country and Region
The Security Council today welcomed the agreement achieved in Iraq on 11 November to form a national partnership Government.
In a Statement read by this month’s President, Mark Lyall Grant of the United Kingdom, the Council welcomed the inclusive political process and representative outcome and encouraged Iraq’s leaders to rededicate themselves to the pursuit of national reconciliation.
The Council reaffirmed its commitment to the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Iraq and emphasized the importance of the stability and security of the country for its people, the region and the international community.
The meeting started at 5:00 p.m. and was adjourned at 5:05 p.m.
Presidential Statement
The full text of Presidential Statement S/PRST/2010/23 reads as follows:
“The Security Council welcomes the agreement to form a national partnership government achieved in Iraq on 11 November.
“The Security Council welcomes the inclusive political process and representative outcome and encourages Iraq’s leaders to rededicate themselves to the pursuit of national reconciliation.
“The Security Council reaffirms its commitment to the independence, sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Iraq, and emphasizes the importance of the stability and security of Iraq for its people, the region, and the international community.”
