Young People Take Stand on Climate Change with Exhibition at United Nations,

 

to Be Formally Opened on 14 July

 

The exhibition “Climate Faces — Changing Earth, Changing Lives”, now on display in the Main Gallery of the Visitors Lobby of United Nations Headquarters, will be opened formally in a 6 p.m. ceremony on Wednesday, 14 July.

Included in the exhibition are photographs and testimonials from two British Council global projects: “Cape Farewell”, which chronicles a voyage to witness the effects of climate change in the Canadian arctic by 28 high school students as well as scientists and artists from around the world; and “Turning the Tide”, featuring illustrations submitted in a photo contest by young people in 40 countries, showing how climate change impacts their communities.

The exhibition also includes videos submitted in a World Bank Group competition.  It unveils the next generation’s optimism and passion for tackling climate change, an urgency summed up by Abhinav Khanal from Dhaka, Bangladesh.  “You may say that we can simply move somewhere else.  However, the simple fact is, the whole country is vulnerable.  There is nowhere to go…”

“Climate Faces” highlights how the British Council is tackling climate change through cultural relations — connecting people around the world to increase understanding of both issues and possible solutions to the phenomenon.  The British Council is the United Kingdom’s international non-profit organization for cultural relations and education opportunities.

The exhibition is a joint initiative by the British Council, the World Bank Group and the Global Risk Forum GRF Davos.  The exhibition will remain on display through 31 July.
