Photography Exhibit Commemorating Water for Life Decade

Opens at Headquarters Monday, 22 March

A photographic exhibition entitled "Care for Water, Care for Life" opens on Monday, 22 March, at 6:15 p.m. in the North-East Gallery of the Visitors Lobby at United Nations Headquarters.

Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information Kiyo Akasaka will be master of ceremonies.  Statements at the formal launch will be delivered by Prime Minister of Tajikistan Oqil Oqilov; President of the sixty-fourth session of the General Assembly Ali Abdussalam Treki; and Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Gender Issues and the Advancement of Women Rachel Mayanja.

The exhibit is dedicated to the International Decade of Action "Water for Life, 2005-2015" and World Water Day, 22 March.  The primary goal of the Water for Life Decade is to promote efforts to fulfill international commitments made on water and water-related issues by 2015.  Through photographs, the exhibit showcases water-related problems worldwide.

Also forming part of the exhibit is a selection of short videos produced by United Nations Television on the issue of water.

This exhibition is organized by the Permanent Mission of Tajikistan to the United Nations, the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs and UN-Water.
