28th Meeting* (PM)
Fourth Committee Elects Chitsaka Chipaziwa of Zimbabwe
Chair for Sixty-Fifth General Assembly Session
The Fourth Committee (Special Political and Decolonization) this afternoon moved towards completing its bureau for the General Assembly’s sixty-fifth session by electing a new Chair and Vice-Chair.
Ambassador Chitsaka Chipaziwa of Zimbabwe was elected Chair by acclamation. On 11 June, the Committee had elected the previous Permanent Representative of Zimbabwe, Boniface Chidyausiku, as Chair, but shortly afterward the Secretariat was informed that Ambassador Chidyausiku had completed his tenure and a new election would be needed.
Also today, Radosław Flisiuk of Poland was elected Vice-Chair from the Eastern European Group.
Accepting his new position, Mr. Chipaziwa praised his predecessor and said he was humbled by his selection and hoped to live up to the expectations of the Committee.
The Committee will meet again at a date and time to be announced.
