Michel Tommo Monthe of Cameroon Elected Chair of Third Committee
for Sixty-Fifth Session of General Assembly
The Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) met this morning to elect its Chair and other officers for the General Assembly’s sixty-fifth session.
It elected by acclamation Michel Tommo Monthe ( Cameroon) as Chair; María Luz Melon ( Argentina), Margareta Ploder ( Austria) and Waheed al-Shami ( Yemen) as Vice-Chairs; and Asif Garayev ( Azerbaijan) as Rapporteur.
After his election, Mr. Tommo thanked the Committee’s outgoing Bureau for its work during the past year. He encouraged all Committee members to work together to address the complex and vast work ahead in social, humanitarian, cultural and human rights affairs. He also offered words of encouragement for the Secretariat and support staff.
