Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations Adopts Draft Report
to Conclude 2010 Resumed Session
The Committee on Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) concluded its 2010 resumed session today by adopting its draft report, with the understanding that it would be finalized with the Secretariat’s support and in consultation with Committee members, as appropriate.
Wael M. Attiya ( Egypt), Committee Rapporteur, introduced the draft report, pointing out amendments made and noting that missing technical information would be reflected once the document was finalized.
Following that action, Andrei Abramov, Chief of the NGO Branch in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs, provided an overview of the progress made during the resumed session, which had taken place from 26 May to 4 June. Of the 253 applications considered, he said, the Committee had recommended consultative status for 55 organizations, closed 15 applications and deferred consideration of 183 others, pending receipt of responses to members’ questions. It had also taken note of 222 quadrennial reports.
Ramis Şen ( Turkey), Committee Chair, thanked members for their active participation and cooperation during the resumed session, as well as the Rapporteur for his work to complete the draft report, and the Committee Secretary and NGO Branch Chief for their efforts.
