New Permanent Representative of Estonia Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Estonia to the United Nations, Margus Kolga, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.


Until his latest appointment, Mr. Kolga was Director-General of the First Political Department (Security Policy and International Organizations), having joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in March 2007.


From 2006, he held the post of Academic Director at the State Defence Course, which trains senior State officials, civil servants and opinion leaders in defence and security matters.  Between 2004 and 2006, Mr. Kolga was acting Co-Chairman of the Defence and Military Terminology Commission and a member of the Military Education Board.


He was a senior research fellow at the Baltic Defence College from 2003 until March 2007 with responsibility for organizing and supporting the then newly established Higher Command Studies course.  Between 1996 and 2003, he served as Deputy Secretary-General at the Ministry of Defence responsible for policy and planning, international relations and public affairs.


Mr. Kolga studied History at Tartu University (1984-1992).


Born in Tallinn, Estonia, in 1966, he is married and has three children.
