Biographical Note

New Permanent Representative of Barbados Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations, Joseph E. Goddard, presented his credentials today to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

From 1973-2007, Mr. Goddard worked for the National Union of Public Workers, in various positions, including General Secretary.  During this time, he was involved in numerous other activities, including as General Secretary of the Caribbean Public Services Association, and as a Board Member of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados.  He also served as General Secretary of the Caribbean Public Services Association.  From 1983 to the present, he has been a trustee of the Caribbean Congress of Labour.  From 2005 to the present, he has served as Director of the Barbados Consumer Research Organization.

His awards include the Award of Excellence from the Caribbean Congress of Labour, the Pride of Barbados Award for Distinguished Service from the Democratic Labour Party, and Outstanding Dedicated Service to the Labour Movement in the Region from the Caribbean Congress of Labour.

He received a master’s degree in industrial relations and personnel management from the London School of Economics.  His first diploma was in labour studies, from the University of Oxford, Ruskin College, from which he also received a distinction in comparative industrial relations.

Born 5 August 1942, he is married and has two children.
