New Permanent Representative of Switzerland Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations, Paul R. Seger, presented his credentials today to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

From July 2003 until his new appointment, Mr. Seger served as Legal Adviser and Head of the Directorate of International Law of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

From 2000 to 2003, he was Deputy Chief of Mission of the Swiss Embassy in Buenos Aires.

From 1995 to 2000, Mr. Seger was Head of the International Law Section and Deputy Head of the Division for International Law, Human Rights and Humanitarian Law of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to that, he served as Legal Adviser for Switzerland’s Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations in New York and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Swiss Embassy in Kinshasa.

Mr. Seger has a law degree from the University of Basel and is a lecturer at its law faculty.  He speaks German, English, French and Spanish.

Born on 26 December 1958 in Basel, he is married with two sons.
