Activities of Secretary-General in Switzerland, 5-6 July
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived in Geneva, Switzerland, on 5 July from an official visit to Myanmar.
That evening, he was the guest of the Association des Correspondants Accredites aupres des Nations Unies (ACANU) at a social event held in his honour at the Palais des Nations.
The next morning, he delivered the keynote address at the World Trade Organization’s Second Global Review of Aid for Trade at the organization’s headquarters. (See Press Release SG/SM/12352-ECO/161.)
After that, he returned to the Palais des Nations to address the High-Level Segment of the Economic and Social Council and launched a progress report on the Millennium Development Goals (Press Release SG/SM/12353-ECOSOC/6398). He then presided over the opening of Economic and Social Council’s 2009 Innovation Fair in the foyer of the Palais (Press Release SG/SM/12354-ECOSCOC/6399).
That afternoon, the Secretary-General chaired a meeting of potential donors to enhance the global response to the H1N1 flu at the Palais.
He then held a press conference before his last formal engagement of the day, a meeting with Japan’s State Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Shintaro Ito. They discussed Myanmar, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and public health issues.
The Secretary-General left Geneva later that afternoon for an official visit to Ireland.
