Reiterates UN Support for Consolidation of Peace

 


The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:


On the occasion today of the inauguration of Malam Bacai Sanha as the newly elected President of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, the Secretary-General sends his best wishes to the President and to the people of Guinea-Bissau as they turn a new page in their history.  The Secretary-General reiterates the support of the United Nations for the consolidation of peace and the promotion of socio-economic development in the country.  He is confident that, with the support of international partners, the people and leaders of Guinea-Bissau will continue their efforts to strengthen democracy and foster respect for the rule of law.
