STATEMENT BY SECRETARY-GENERAL ON MEDIATION EFFORTS ON HONDURAS

 

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General spoke today with President Oscar Arias of Costa Rica and conveyed his support for President Arias’ mediation efforts to resolve the political crisis in Honduras.  The Secretary-General has offered technical assistance for the mediation and agreed to work together with President Arias to help the parties reach an agreement.  The Secretary-General is confident that an open dialogue and international support will help resolve the current crisis.
