Secretary-General deeply saddened by death of Gabon’s President

 

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General was deeply saddened to learn of the passing away of His Excellency Omar Bongo Ondimba, President of the Republic of Gabon.  He extends his sincere condolences to the President’s family, as well as to the Government and people of Gabon.

The Secretary-General pays tribute to the late President Bongo Ondimba for the key role he played in the search for peace and stability not only in the Central Africa subregion, but also in other parts of the continent.
