MAJOR GENERAL ROBERT MOOD APPOINTED HEAD OF MISSION, CHIEF OF STAFF
OF UNITED NATIONS TRUCE SUPERVISION ORGANIZATION (UNTSO)
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has appointed Major General Robert Mood of Norway as Head of Mission and Chief of Staff of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization (UNTSO). General Mood succeeds Major General Ian Gordon of Australia, who relinquished his post on 15 January 2009.
General Mood has had an extensive and distinguished military career, serving since 2005 as the Chief of Staff of the Norwegian Army.
Prior to this assignment, General Mood was the Commanding Officer of the Norwegian Army Transformation and Doctrine Command in 2004. He has also held the appointments of Inspector General of Combined Arms and of Commanding Officer of Norwegian Army Combined Arms Centre of Competence. He has served twice with the Kosovo multinational security force (KFOR), most recently in 2002 as Chief, Joint Implementation Commission, and previously as Battalion Commander in 1999-2000. He joined the Norwegian Army in 1979.
Born in 1958, General Mood has also received degrees from a number of military institutions, including the Norwegian Military Academy and the Norwegian Army Staff College, the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Defense College.
