‘Pieces for Peace’ Exhibit Opens at United Nations Headquarters

 

An exhibition of children's drawings from around the world will open on Tuesday, 15 December, at 6 p.m. in the South Gallery of the Visitors’ Lobby.

The exhibit, entitled "Pieces for Peace with Youth from around the World", is an international project spearheaded by CITYarts under the Young Minds Build Bridges programme.  "Pieces for Peace" invites youth to take responsibility and play an active role in shaping their future by asking themselves, "What does peace look like to me?"  It aims to encourage cultural understanding between American youth and their peers around the world.  The artworks on display are a small selection from over 3,000 artworks created since 2002 at workshops organized in 50 schools in 37 countries.

Since 1968, CITYarts has empowered children and youth by bringing them together with professional artists to create public art that addresses civic and social issues, impact lives and transforms their communities.  Among CITYarts projects in New York are the Living Planters on the Upper East Side, the Peace Wall Mosaic Restoration on Amsterdam Avenue, the Stay in School Mural in the Bronx, and the Rolling Benches Restoration at Grant's Tomb, to name a few.

This exhibit is sponsored by CITYarts in cooperation with the United Nations Office for Partnerships (UNFIP) and the Permanent Missions of Germany, Malta and Qatar.
