Exhibit on Cooperation among Developing Countries
on Display at United Nations Headquarters
An exhibition marking the opening of the United Nations Conference for South-South Cooperation held in Nairobi, Kenya, 1-3 December will be launched with a reception on Tuesday, 8 December at 6:00 pm in the Visitors Lobby.
The images in this exhibition showcase successes in South-South Cooperation by describing projects by the India, Brazil and South Africa (IBSA) Trust Fund, a trilateral initiative across the Global South. Projects include development of agriculture and services to rural communities in Guinea-Bissau; strengthening of infrastructure and capacity to combat HIV/AIDS in Burundi; refurbishment of health care infrastructure and water desalination in Cape Verde; programme opportunities in recreation and team sports in Palestine; and a comprehensive service development for children with special needs in Cambodia. On display is a recycling project in the Port-au-Prince neighbourhood of Carrefour Feuilles, Haiti, that introduces cooking bricks from recycled paper products.
South-South Cooperation is a priority United Nations theme that is increasingly growing in relevance, as evidenced by the recent General Assembly resolution for a United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation in Kenya.
The IBSA Trust Fund was created in 2004 out of the IBSA Dialogue Forum, a presidential-level initiative to enhance cooperation among these three developing countries. Its purpose is to identify replicable and scalable projects that can be disseminated to interested developing countries as examples of best practices in the fight against poverty and hunger.
This exhibit is sponsored by the Permanent Missions of India, Brazil and South Africa to the United Nations and the Special Unit for South-South Cooperation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
