New Permanent Representative of Croatia Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Croatia to the United Nations, Ranko Vilović, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.


Prior to his appointment, Mr. Vilović held the title of Deputy Permanent Representative of his country’s United Nations Mission.  Earlier, he served as Head of the United Nations Department (2004-2008), as well as Head of the Department for Northern and Western Europe (2002-2004), in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Croatia.


During his long diplomatic career, Mr. Vilović has been Minister Counsellor in the Permanent Mission to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna between the years 1998-2002.  Prior to that, he held the positions of Head of the Department for Peace and Security from 1995 to 1998; Head of the Croatian Consulate in Zurich from 1993 to 1995; Counsellor of the Croatian Embassy in Bern, Switzerland, from 1992 to 1993; and Head of the Consular Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, until 1992.


Born in Zagreb, Mr. Vilović was educated there, as well as in Halifax, Canada, and The Hague, the Netherlands.  He began his career as a lawyer in 1980 and is currently married with two children.
