Biographical Note


New Permanent Representative of Paraguay Presents Credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Paraguay to the United Nations, José Antonio dos Santos, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.


Prior to his appointment, Mr. Dos Santos was Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs since 2006, and Consul General in Los Angeles, United States, between 2002 and 2006.  From 1999 to 2001, he served as Director General of Consular Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Asunción.


Posted as Chargé d’affaires in Ottawa, Canada, in 1997-98, he previously served as Consul General in New York from 1993 to 1997, having joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1992 as Legal Adviser to the Vice Minister.


He holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Asunción and a master’s in international law from the American University in Washington, D.C.


Born in Asunción in 1964, Mr. Dos Santos is married and has two children.
