Biographical Note

NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF PANAMA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Pablo Antonio Thalassinós, the new Permanent Representative of Panama to the United Nations, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Thalassinós was an adviser to the President of the University of Panama since 2004, having served as Minister for Education from September 1994 to August 1999.  From 1986 to 1988, he was General Manager of the Colon Free Zone, and has been Honorary Vice Consul of Cyprus in Panama since 1977.

After founding the Clinica Psicologica Thalassinós in 1968, he received his board certification as a psychologist in 1976.  While continuing in private practice, he held a number of positions in higher education, including Dean and Vice-Dean of the College of Humanities, Universidad de Panama, from 1982 to 1985, and Chairman of the Department of Psychology at the same institution from 1980 to 1982.

Mr. Thalassinós earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Central State University, Oklahoma, in the United States, and a Master of Education in counselling psychology from the University of Central Oklahoma.

Born in Panama City in 1945, he is married and has two daughters and five grandchildren.
