NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF UZBEKISTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to the United Nations, Murad Askarov, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.


At the time of his appointment, Mr. Askarov was Chief of the Head Department for Analysis and Strategy of Foreign Policy in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 2006, having served as Second and then First Secretary in the same Department from 2005.  Between 2003 and 2005 he was Third Secretary in the Foreign Ministry’s Policy Planning Group.


Mr. Askarov served as Head of Chancellery at the Embassy of Uzbekistan to the United States in Washington, D.C., from 1999 until 2003, prior to which he was Referent of the Treaty and Law Department in the Foreign Ministry from 1997 to 1999.


He obtained a doctorate in political science and a Master’s degree in international relations from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, which he attended from 1993 to 1997.


Born in 1974, Mr. Askarov is married and has three children.
