Biographical Note
New Permanent representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina presents credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ivan Barbalic, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Trained in European integration issues, Mr. Barbalic previously served in a variety of positions in international organizations, educational institutions and government.
He was a co-founder of the non-governmental organization known as the European Movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina and served as its Vice-President from June 2006 to the present. From 2005 to 20007, he served on his country’s negotiation team for the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the European Union, after earlier working at its Directorate for European Integration from 2000 to 2001.
Concurrent with those activities, he was the President of another non-governmental organization, the Association of Alumni of the Centre of Interdisciplinary and Postgraduate Studies (ACIPS). He also worked as a public relations and marketing consultant, co-wrote a manual on early warning systems produced by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and lectured on marketing at the Noel Baker Centre for Business and Management.
Mr. Barbalic began his career in 1998 as a journalist with Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Radio ZID, after which he served as a legal assistant in the Human Rights Department of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in Sarajevo.
Having received a European regional master’s degree in 2001 in Democracy and Human Rights in South-East Europe from the University of Sarajevo and the University of Bologna, Italy, he also took a postgraduate course in the Governance and Politics of European integration in Bologna.
He received his bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1997 from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut, United States. Born in 1975, he is married with no children.
