SECRETARY-GENERAL WELCOMES CONVENING OF POLITICAL DIALOGUE
IN CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC
The following statement was issued on Sunday, 7 December, by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
The Secretary-General welcomes the confirmation that the inclusive political dialogue will be convened in Bangui on Monday, 8 December 2008. He is encouraged by this development and wishes success to the dialogue participants in the hope that the dialogue would establish a foundation for a genuine national reconciliation process. The Secretary-General reaffirms the United Nations support to ensure the successful holding of the dialogue.
The Secretary-General commends regional and international partners for their efforts in promoting peace in the country. He thanks, in particular, the peace consolidation force of the Economic Community of Central African States, MICOPAX, for assuring security arrangements for the dialogue.
