Comments by Zimbabwe questioning Secretary-General’s impartiality ‘inappropriate
and unacceptable’, says United Nations spokesperson
The following statement was issued Saturday, 12 July, by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:
We strongly regret the highly inappropriate and unacceptable comments by the Permanent Representative of Zimbabwe questioning the Secretary-General’s impartiality towards events in Zimbabwe.
There is nothing one-sided about defending the right of the people of Zimbabwe to choose a legitimate Government in a free and fair election.
The Secretary-General will continue to support efforts to promote talks between both sides in Zimbabwe that can lead to a democratic transition and economic recovery for the people of that country.
