FACILITATES RESOLUTION OF COLOMBIA, ECUADOR DISPUTE

The following statement was issued today by the Spokesperson for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

The Secretary-General welcomes the outcome of the Rio Group Summit this weekend, which further facilitates the resolution of recent tensions between Colombia and Ecuador.  This development complements earlier action by the Organization of American States and underlines the effective role that can be played by regional mechanisms to promote dialogue and cooperation.
