SECURITY COUNCIL PRESS STATEMENT ON DJIBOUTI, ERITREA
The following Security Council press statement on Djibouti and Eritrea was read out 24 June by Council President ( United States) Alejandro Wolff:
The members of the Security Council recalled the presidential statement(S/PRST/2008/20) issued 12 June 2008 expressing strong concern about the serious incidents that occurred along the border between Djibouti and Eritrea,
The members of the Security Council regretted that Eritrea has not answered the calls sent by the 12 June presidential statement,
The members of the Security Council reiterated their call to the parties, in particular Eritrea, to withdraw forces to the status quo ante,
The members of the Security Council commended regional and subregional organizations for their efforts to assist the parties into finding a negotiated solution,
The members of the Security Council requested the Secretary-General to send a fact finding mission at the border between Djibouti and Eritrea,
The members of the Security Council called on the parties to facilitate the work of the fact-finding mission,
The members of the Security Council requested the Secretary-General to brief the Security Council on the situation, if possible under two weeks.
