COMPARATIVE TABLE REGARDING SECURITY COUNCIL 1267 COMMITTEE,

COUNTER-TERRORISM COMMITTEE, 1540 COMMITTEE

On the occasion of the joint briefing to the Security Council by the Chairmen of the Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee (the 1267 Committee), the Counter-Terrorism Committee (CTC) and the Committee established pursuant to resolution 1540 (2004) (the 1540 Committee), the three Committees have issued on 6 May 2008 a comparative table in order to provide clarification regarding their distinct but complementary roles.  This table is available on their websites at:

The mandate and the activities of these three Committees are different but complementary.  The three bodies oversee the implementation of specific measures decided by the Security Council, but they do so from different perspectives.

The three Committees are assisted in their work by expert bodies, namely the Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team for Al-Qaida and the Taliban, the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) and the 1540 Expert Group.
