SECURITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE SEPARATES SECTION E (NAMES OF DE-LISTED INDIVIDUALS,

ENTITIES) FROM CONSOLIDATED LIST; REVISES INTRODUCTION PAGE, SEARCH GUIDANCE

The Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee on 22 February 2008 adopted a decision to separate Section E (de-listed individuals and entities) from its List of individuals and entities subject to sanctions measures taking into account that some States have been reported to have legal and other difficulties to incorporate this section of the List into their national databases.  For future reference, the names of the de-listed individuals and entities can now be found on the Committee’s website (de-listing section) at the following address: http://www.un.org/sc/committees/1267/delisting.shtml.

On 5 March 2008, the Committee also adopted a decision to revise the introduction page to its Consolidated List, as well as the Guidance for conducting effective searches of the List.  This revision has been introduced following the addition of the Consolidated List in XML format to the Committee’s website, the above-mentioned separation of Section E from the List and some other technical issues.  The introduction page to the Consolidated List can be found at the address: http://www.un.org/sc/committees/1267/consolist.shtml, while the search guidance can be found at the address: http://www.un.org/sc/committees/1267/pdf/sguidance.pdf.

The improvements introduced to the List are in follow-up to paragraphs 7 and 8 of the Committee’s report reflecting its position on the recommendations contained in the Seventh Report of the Al-Qaida and Taliban Monitoring Team to the Committee (document S/2008/16).

The Committee hopes that the above improvements, already reflected on the Committee’s website, will assist Member States in their sanctions implementation efforts.

The Committee’s website can be found at the address: http://www.un.org/sc/committees/1267/index.shtml.
