INTERNATIONAL YOUTH ART SHOW OPENS AT UNITED NATIONS HEADQUARTERS ON 12 AUGUST
In observance of International Youth Day, a joint art exhibition of children’s works of art will be launched in the Main Gallery of the Visitor’s Lobby on Tuesday, 12 August, at 6 p.m.
The international youth art show highlights three unique themes, “192 Children’s Views of the World”, “Children’s Drawings about the Environment” and “Sport and Peace through the Olympic Spirit”.
“192 Children’s Views of the World” consists of a selection of drawings by children, each representing a United Nations Member State. The exhibit shows how today’s children perceive the world in which they live, coloured by the diversity of their backgrounds and daily life. The project “192 Children’s Views of the World” is sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations and GenevaWorld, a Swiss cultural association promoting dialogue between countries.
“Children’s drawings about the Environment” displays the winning images of the annual International Environmental Children’s Drawings Contest, in which 19,000 children from 54 countries submitted entries on the theme “Coexistence between man and nature”. The drawings were made by children aged 7 to 15 years. The exhibit is sponsored by the United States Fund for UNICEF and the Japan Quality Assurance Organization.
“Sport and Peace through the Olympic Spirit” illustrates what the words “peace, friendship and goodwill” and the “Olympic Spirit” mean to children. The exhibit, comprising a mosaic of interpretations, with many drawings related to the Olympic Games as an example of friendship among nations, is sponsored by International Paint Pals, in partnership with the Beijing Youth Federation. Paint Pals is a special programme of the Youth Art Connection, Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, United States.
The exhibit opening and reception is sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations.
