Biographical Note
New permanent representative of BRUNEI DARUSSALAM presents credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to the United Nations, Latif bin Tuah, today presented his credentials to the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Mr. Tuah has served since 2005 as the Director-General of the Department for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Brunei Darussalam.
Previously, he served as the Acting Director for his country’s Political Department and Ministry of Foreign Affairs from February through December of 2004, prior to which he served as the Ministry’s Deputy Director for the ASEAN Department. At that same Ministry, he served as Acting Deputy Director and then Deputy Director from 2000.
He also served as First Secretary for his country’s Embassy to Japan from 1998 to 2000; having served as Assistant Director at the ASEAN Department in the Foreign Affairs Ministry from 1995 to 1998. From 1992 to 1995, he served as Assistant Director at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, with a simultaneous obligation from 1992 to 1993 as Special Assistant to the Secretary-General at that same Secretariat.
From 1989 to 1992, he served as a Research Officer with the Foreign Affairs Ministry’s ASEAN Department, prior to which he served as a Research Officer with the Political Department in the Foreign Affairs Ministry from 1986.
Mr. Tuah has been decorated with several national awards: the Most Blessed Order of Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei in July 2008; the Pingat Kerja Lama, or Long Service Medal, in February 2008; the Pingat Jasa Kebaktian, or Meritorious Service Medal, in July 2003; and the Most Blessed Order of Setia Negara Brunei in July 1997.
The new Ambassador studied humanities in the United Kingdom, where he majored in law and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986.
Born in Brunei Darussalam in 1961, Mr. Tuah is married with two children.
