Biographical Note

NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF CHAD PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

The new Permanent Representative of Chad, Ahmad Allam-Mi, today presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Allam-Mi was the Minister for Foreign Affairs and African Integration from 2005, serving also as a spokesperson and one of the chief negotiators for the Chadian mediation team on the crisis in neighbouring Darfur, Sudan.

Before his ministerial appointment, Mr. Allam-Mi served as Special Adviser to the President of the Republic from 2004 to 2005.  He was Technical Adviser to the Presidency from 2002 to 2004, and Managing Director for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation from 1997 to 2002.

Serving in many capacities in Chadian embassies around the world, he was Ambassador to France, Switzerland, Spain and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) from 1992 to 1994.  While still holding that post, he was previously accredited to Morocco and the Holy See between 1983 and 1991.

Mr. Allam-Mi served as Charge d’Affaires at Chad’s Paris Embassy from 1979 to 1980, First Counsellor from 1978 to 1979 and First Counsellor at the Embassy in Tripoli, Libya, from 1975 to 1976.

He was educated at the University of Cameroon and the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris.

Born in Chad in 1948, Mr. Allam-Mi is married and has five children.
