New permanent representative of GAMBIA presents credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Gambia to the United Nations, Susan Waffa-Ogoo, presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to her appointment, she held several key positions at Gambia’s Cabinet of Ministers, serving as a Minister for Trade, Industry and Employment (2006-2007); Minister for Tourism and Culture (2004-2006); Minister for Fisheries, Natural Resources and the Environment (2000-2004); Minister for Tourism and Culture (1995-2000); and Minister of Information and Tourism (1994-1995).  Before that, she worked as a Deputy Librarian at Gambia’s College of Higher Education (1987-1994).  In 1987, she also contracted to serve the Africana Section at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London.

Ms. Waffa-Ogoo holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in library and information studies from the Loughborough University of Technology, United Kingdom, and a Certificate in library and information studies from the University of Ghana, Legon, Accra.  She also received training from the School of Oriental and African Studies and at the Hammer Smith and Fulham Central Library Services.

Born on 4 October 1960 in Banjul, Gambia, Ms. Waffa-Ogoo is married with two children.
