New permanent representative of VENEZUELA presents credentials

The new Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the United Nations, Jorge Valero Briceño, presented his credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Valero was Vice-Minister for External Affairs in charge of North America and Multilateral Issues since 2006, prior to which he was his country’s Permanent Representative at the Organization of American States from 2003.  From 2001 to 2003, he was Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, having previously served as Vice-Minister for External Affairs between 1999 and 2001.

During his public service career, Mr. Valero also held the posts of Governor at the Fund for International Development of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC); President of the Presidential Commission in preparation for the OPEC II Summit of 2000; and President of the Commission for Social Debt of the Latin American Parliament.  He served as an expert in Diplomatic Archives at the United States National Archives and the Foreign Office in London.

Mr. Valero holds degrees in history and Latin American studies from the Universidad de Los Andes and the University of London, respectively.

He was born in 1946 in Valera City, Trujillo State, Venezuela.
