SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS TETSUO M. OHNO OF JAPAN DIRECTOR
OF UNITED NATIONS INFORMATION CENTRE IN LAGOS, NIGERIA
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon is pleased to announce the appointment of Tetsuo M. Ohno, a national of Japan, as Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. He will be taking up his duties in mid-March.
Mr. Ohno has been serving as the Director of the United Nations Information Centre in Islamabad since October 2003, and prior to that as its Officer-in-Charge since September 2002. Prior to his assignment to Pakistan, Mr. Ohno served with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris, assisting former United Nations Secretary-General Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, who was then the Special Advisor to the UNESCO Director-General on Culture and Development. Early in his professional career, he served as National Information Officer with the United Nations Information Centre in Tokyo. Mr. Ohno has also worked as an Information Officer with the Department of Public Information at United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Mr. Ohno holds Master and Bachelor of Arts degrees in journalism from Sophia University in Tokyo.
