SECURITY COUNCIL AL-QAIDA, TALIBAN SANCTIONS COMMITTEE ADDS NEW FORMAT

OF CONSOLIDATED LIST TO WEBSITE TO FACILITATE SANCTIONS IMPLEMENTATION

The Consolidated List of individuals and entities associated with Al-Qaida and the Taliban is now available on the Security Council Al-Qaida and Taliban Sanctions Committee’s website in XML format.  The Committee had requested the United Nations Secretariat to develop the new format in response to requests from Governments, banks and other institutions responsible for ensuring that the three sanctions measures (arms embargo, travel ban and assets freeze) imposed by the Security Council are effectively enforced.

The addition of the XML format of the List to the Committee’s website will facilitate the transmission of the data contained in the List across different software and hardware platforms, and will allow data to be more easily integrated into the many different types of information systems that are used by Governments and financial institutions around the world.

The improvement of the List with regard to its completeness and accuracy remains an important focus of the Committee’s work.  The Committee hopes that the provision of the list in the XML format will assist Member States in their efforts towards a more effective implementation of the sanctions regime.

The new XML format of the List, together with the previously available HTML and PDF formats, is accessible on the Committee’s website at http://www.un.org/sc/committees/1267/consolist.shtml.  The layout of the HTML and PDF formats has been slightly modified.  Users are invited to submit comments or suggestions to the Secretariat (SC-1267-Committee@un.org or 1267mt@un.org) on improving the general way the information in the XML format is organized.
