All roads film project celebrates indigenous cinema, photography on 14 May

as Part of sixth session of United Nations permanent forum

The All Roads Film Project will celebrate indigenous cinema and photography at the sixth session of the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, which begins on Monday, 14 May.

An exhibition of award-winning photo-essays will formally open on Monday, 14 May, at 6 p.m. in the North-East Gallery of the General Assembly Visitors’ Lobby.  The exhibit highlights the work of local photographers from Bangladesh, Guatemala, Iran and the United States.

The All Roads Photography Program recognizes and supports talented indigenous and minority-culture photographic storytellers from around the world, who are documenting their changing culture and community through photography.  The Program provides a forum for photographers to showcase their unique perspectives to a global audience through exhibitions and panel discussions and offers awardees workshops and networking opportunities.

At 6:30 p.m., a special screening of films from the 2006 All Roads Film Festival will take place in Conference Room 4, featuring two remarkable films by filmmakers from the Mixe community in Mexico and the Sami community in Finland.

This photographic exhibit and film screening is presented by the National Geographic All Roads Film Project, which showcases breakthrough film and still photography from indigenous and underrepresented minority cultures around the globe.  Also co-sponsoring this project are the United Nations Department of Public Information and the Secretariat of the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
