Biographical Note


RAYMOND OSBOURNE WOLFE OF JAMAICA CHAIRMAN OF THIRD COMMITTEE

 


Raymond Osbourne Wolfe, Permanent Representative of Jamaica, was elected Chairman of the Third Committee (Social, Humanitarian and Cultural) on 24 May.  (See Press Release GA/10597.)


Mr. Wolfe was posted to New York in 2006, having served as Under-Secretary for Multilateral Affairs in his country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade from 2003.  He was High Commissioner to Canada between 1998 and 2003 and held consecutive senior positions in the Foreign Ministry for several years before that, including Director of the European Affairs Department and Director of the Africa, Asia and Pacific Affairs Department.


After joining the Ministry in July 1973, Mr. Wolfe’s first overseas posting was to the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, where he served from 1977 to 1981.  He also worked at United Nations Headquarters in New York (1984-1990), Nigeria (1990-1992) and Japan (1992-1994).


A graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mr. Wolfe holds a Bachelor of Science degree in international relations in addition to a diploma in international relations from the Foreign Service Officers’ Training Course in Canberra, Australia.  He has completed a Commonwealth Executive Programme in public management at the Executive Education Centre of the Schulich School of Business at York University, Toronto, Canada.


Born on 4 May 1941, Mr. Wolfe is married with two children.
