Biographical Note
NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF KAZAKHSTAN PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Byrganym Aitimova, the new Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan, today presented her credentials to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
Ms. Aitimova has held various positions in the Kazakhstan Government. From 2004 until her current appointment, she was Minister of Education and Science. In 2004, she was Deputy Prime Minister. From 2002 to 2004, she was Ambassador to Italy, and from 1996 to 2002, Ambassador to Israel. In 1996, she held a senatorial seat in Parliament.
Prior to that, she was Minister on Youth Affairs, Tourism and Sport. From 1990 to 1993, she was a Member of Parliament. She spent two years, from 1988 to 1990, as Deputy Chairman of the Soviet Children’s Fund section. Before that she was Secretary of the Republican Youth Organization, First Secretary of a regional youth organization and a public school teacher.
Ms. Aitimova studied at Kazakh State University, the Almaty Institute of Political Science and Management, and Ural State Pedagogical Institute. She is fluent in English, Kazakh and Russian.
Born in 1953 in the West-Kazakhstan region, Mrs. Aitimova is married with two children.
