Biographical Note

NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SLOVENIA PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

Sanja Štiglic, the new Permanent Representative of Slovenia to the United Nations, today presented her credentials to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Prior to her current appointment, from 2005 to 2006, Ms. Štiglic headed the Division for Relations with the countries of Western, Northern and Central Europe in Slovenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  In 2003 and 2004, she served as State Under-Secretary and Head of the Minister’s Office.  In 2002, she held the post of Counsellor to the Government and Deputy Head of the Minister’s Office.

Having joined Slovenia’s Foreign Service in 1995, Ms. Štiglic began her diplomatic career as an attaché at the Department for Neighbouring Countries at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and at Slovenia’s Embassy in Zagreb.  From 1996 to 1997 she worked as an Adviser at the Ministry.

From 1997 to 2002, Ms. Štiglic served at Slovenia’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations as Second and then First Secretary.  In 1998 and 1999, she also served as her country’s alternate representative to the Security Council.

Born in Kranj, Slovenia on 10 March 1970, Ms. Štiglic holds a university degree in law from the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia.  She speaks English, German, Spanish and Croatian.
