SECRETARY-GENERAL ‘GREATLY APPRECIATES’ OFFERS BY DENMARK, JAPAN
TO PROVIDE AIR SUPPORT TO UNITED NATIONS IN IRAQ
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General greatly appreciates Denmark’s recent announcement that it will provide a dedicated fixed-wing aircraft for United Nations operations in Iraq. He also welcomes the recent offer by the Government of Japan to provide airlift support. The Secretary-General looks forward to seeing these arrangements finalized and implemented as soon as possible. These contributions will significantly improve United Nations mobility and support to its offices in Iraq.
