Secretary-General welcomes release of Su su nway,
imprisoned in Myanmar since October 2005
The following statement was issued today by the Spokesman for UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan:
The Secretary-General welcomes the release yesterday of Su Su Nway, who had been imprisoned in Myanmar since October 2005.
The Secretary-General urges the Myanmar authorities to follow up this measure with further action that will alleviate the political atmosphere and promote national reconciliation, including the lifting of remaining restrictions on Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other political leaders.
