Secretary-General appoints Steven Schook of United States

 

Principal Deputy Special Representative in Kosovo

 

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan has appointed Steven Schook of the United States as the Principal Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

Since 2005, Mr. Schook has been the Senior Vice-President Business Development, New Technology Management, Inc., in Reston, Virginia.  Previously, he was the Commander and Senior Military Representative of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Headquarters in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.  He has also served as the Commander of the Stabilization Force (SFOR) in Bosnia and as Chief of Staff of the Kosovo Force (KFOR) in Kosovo.

Mr. Schook retired from the United States Army with the rank of Brigadier General.  He holds a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, Providence, Rhode Island, and a bachelor’s degree from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York.  He was born in 1953.
