Secretary-General appoints Bosnia and Herzegovina’s envera selimovic as Department
of Public Information representative in United Nations Azerbaijan office
United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan is pleased to announce the appointment of Envera Selimovic as the Representative of the Department of Public Information in the United Nations Office in Baku, Azerbaijan. Ms. Selimovic, a national of Bosnia and Herzegovina, comes to this post with extensive experience in communications, public relations and journalism. She will take up her duties in Baku immediately.
Ms. Selimovic has worked in the region since March 2003, most recently asSpokesperson for the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG). In that position, she was responsible for UNOMIG strategic communications and for advising the head of mission on public information initiatives and activities.
Prior to joining the United Nations, Ms. Selimovic was one of Bosnia’s best-known and most respected journalists. She was a principal network news anchor for television of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its Chief Foreign Editor and correspondent.
Her other assignments have included five years as the head of the New York/Washington, DC, Bureau for Radio and Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina and several years as a BBC trainer for journalists. In 2001, Ms. Selimovic was declared Bosnia’s female journalist of the year.
Ms. Selimovic holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Sarajevo’s School of Political Science and a master’s in international public policy from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of Johns Hopkins University.
