SECRETARY-GENERAL APPOINTS IAN MARTIN OF UNITED KINGDOM AS HIS PERSONAL
REPRESENTATIVE IN NEPAL FOR SUPPORT TO PEACE PROCESS
The Secretary-General has decided to appoint Ian Martin ( United Kingdom) as his Personal Representative in Nepal for support to the peace process.
Mr. Martin has been Representative in Nepal of the High Commissioner for Human Rights since May 2005. Recently, he undertook a troubleshooting assignment as Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Timor-Leste, where he also served as Special Representative of the Secretary-General for the East Timor Popular Consultation in 1999. He has also served in peacekeeping or human rights missions in Haiti, Rwanda, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Ethiopia/Eritrea. He was Secretary-General of Amnesty International from 1986 to 1992.
