SECURITY COUNCIL ADOPTS ITS ANNUAL REPORT TO GENERAL ASSEMBLY
In a brief meeting this morning, the Security Council adopted its annual report to the General Assembly for the period 1 August 2005 to 31 July 2006.
The annual report is required under Article 15, paragraph 1 and Article 24, paragraph 3 of the United Nations Charter.
In introductory remarks, Tuliameni Kalomoh, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, said the factual information in the report had been prepared by the Secretariat in line with the revised format agreed upon by the Council in 2002. The draft report provided a guide to the Council’s activities in a concise manner. It was the fifth report prepared in accordance with the President’s note of 22 May 2002 (document S/2002/199), now incorporated in the President’s note of 19 July 2006 (document S/2006/507), which was aimed at enhancing the quality of the report. Of particular interest was the introduction, prepared by the delegation of France, which contained an analytical summary of the Council’s work.
The meeting began at 10:23 a.m. and adjourned at 10:28 a.m.
