Following is a statement to the press on the situation in Haiti, delivered today by Security Council President Jorge Voto-Bernales ( Peru):

The members of the Security Council deeply regretted the deaths of two Jordanian peacekeepers that occurred last Friday while they were serving the cause of peace in Haiti, and extended their most sincere condolences to their families and to the Kingdom of Jordan.

The members of the Security Council reiterated their sustained support to the Government of Haiti and to the United Nations Stabilization Mission in that country (MINUSTAH) in their quest for peace, stability and progress for all Haitians, particularly in the fight against gang violence.  They expressed their determination to continue to closely follow the situation in Haiti, in order to work cooperatively with its Government to consolidate a stable environment that enables progress and development.

The members of the Security Council voiced their expectations for the next step in the electoral process, the municipal and local elections scheduled for next 3 December, to be carried out in a peaceful ambiance, with the support of MINUSTAH for the success of this process.
