UNITED NATIONS UNIVERSITY PANEL DISCUSSION ON LEADERSHIP,

GOOD GOVERNANCE TO BE HELD ON 23 FEBRUARY

The profound challenges to confront emerging leaders of the future will be among topics explored on 23 February in a panel discussion, “Dovetailing Leadership and Good Governance”, convened by the United Nations University’s Office at the United Nations Secretariat in New York (UNU-ONY) and its International Leadership Institute (UNU-ILI) in Amman, Jordan.  The discussion will take place from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Auditorium.

Emerging leaders need training to deal with issues of global concern in a humane and socially relevant manner at different levels of society -- individual, community, local, national, regional and international.  The panel will highlight and offer ideas pertinent to these issues, and introduce the UNU-ILI vision for “leadership training” for young diplomats and professionals.

The panellists are:  Abdel Salam Majali, former Prime Minister of Jordan and former President of the University of Jordan; John Sexton, President, New York University; Hans van Ginkel, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Rector, UNU; and Jairam Reddy, Director, UNU-ILI.

Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Chair of the UNU-ILI Advisory Board, will attend, schedule permitting.

United Nations media, United Nations staff, Permanent Missions and non-governmental organizations are cordially invited.
